     Lovina is a relatively new name given in 1950 by Buleleng District Anak Agung Panji Tisna, with a good eye for future tourism-based development. Beginning with a small cottage built on his own land and named Lovina. After going through the tidal struggle, finally the community welcomed the presence of Lovina name. Currently the name Lovina is used for a stretch of seven traditional villages, which are all main roads that embrace the north coast to the west of Singaraja: Temukus, Kalibukbuk, Anturan, Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Banyualit, Kaliasem and. Kalibukuk is the main center of this area and is often thought of "downtown Lovina".

     If you walk along the main coastal road from Singaraja, you turn towards Lovina beach in the only traffic light along the north road. The impressive gate of Bali frames the entrance to two streets where most restaurants and hotels are located. Western-style minimarts and ATMs are located on a busy main road. Lovina offers affordable accommodation with no star residence located about 3 star resorts with swimming pool. Luxurious private villas are also located along the beach. Food is cheaper than Ubud or south coast about one third.

     The entire stretch of the coastline in the north is bounded by a narrow black sandy beach, which lies to the east of the west coast road. The beach is generally safe for swimming, and the waters of the north coast of Bali, which contrast directly with the waves crashing in the south, are relatively quiet. From a distance, the water does not look too clean because the color of sand but actually almost always clear. It can get a bit crowded in July and August, but beyond that peak season, this is a quiet part of the island.

     Lovina also has a number of tourist stalls that are confined to the beach area between the dolphin statue and the main street of the restaurant. The stall holders are not so aggresive as in other parts of Bali. The open air bar often gives loud, live music where customers can participate and it is not unusual to see foreigners jammed with locals. Many foreigners who arrived at sunset when locals and foreigners came down to the beach for 'happy hour' and good food. There is a beach volleyball game going on in the parking lot in front of the main bar as well.
